New Delhi: The railway board has decided to increase the price of meals onboard Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto express trains, which may lead to a hike in their fares by 3 to 9 per cent, the national transporter said.
According to the new order, in first class air conditioned coaches, one cup of tea will get dearer by Rs 6 more, while breakfast and dinner costs will go up by Rs 7 and Rs 15, respetively. The railways will now charge Rs 35 for a tea, Rs 140 for breakfast and Rs 245 for dinner.

- For 2nd AC/3rd AC/Chair Car: Rs 20

- For 1st AC service and Executive chair car: Rs 140
- For 2nd AC/3rd AC/Chair Car: Rs 105
- For sleeper coaches in Duronto trains: Rs 65
Lunch/Dinner:
- For 1st AC service and Executive chair car: Rs 245
- For 2nd AC/3rd AC/Chair Car: Rs 185
- For sleeper coaches in Duronto trains: Rs 120
Evening Tea:
- For 1st AC service and Executive chair car: Rs 140
- For 2nd AC/3rd AC/Chair Car: Rs 90
- For sleeper coaches in Duronto trains: Rs 50
Indian Railways has decided to introduce the option of Chicken Curry in the Standard non-veg meals for Mail/Express trains.
Mail/Express trains: Revised IRCTC tariff for standard meals:
- Breakfast (Veg): Rs 40
- Breakfast (Non-veg): Rs 50
- Standard Meal (Veg): Rs 80
- Standard Meal (Non-Veg with Egg Curry): Rs 90
- Standard Meal (Non-Veg with Chicken Curry): Rs 130
Also, keeping in mind the popularity of biryani as a standard meal variety, IRCTC will now make available biryani at the following new rates:
- Veg Biryani: Rs 80
- Egg Biryani: Rs 90
- Chicken Biryani: Rs 110
The railways has also increased the cost of tea, breakfast and dinner in AC two-tier, AC three-tier and AC chair car coaches, where tea will now cost Rs 20, breakfast Rs 105 and lunch and dinner Rs 185 per plate.
The national transporter further said that it has also decided to serve snacks with regional flavour.
