DuckDuckGo’s Privacy-Focused Browser for Windows: According to DuckDuckGo, its Windows browser consumes 60% less data than Chrome. Automatically selects the most private settings and conceals cookie consent prompts.
The browser provides email protection to conceal your actual email address during registration.
DuckDuckGo is one of the most prominent names when discussing online privacy protection tools. Its most prominent product is a search engine that prioritises privacy, but the company also offers a web browser. Android and iOS clients have existed for years, and a Mac version has been available for roughly nine months. Now, the public beta version of the highly-requested DuckDuckGo browser for Windows has been released.
DuckDuckGo’s Privacy-Focused Browser for Windows:
The Windows browser was announced by DuckDuckGo via an official blog post. This is a public beta release, so users do not need an invite code or to be on a waiting list in order to test it out. It is rumoured to include all the privacy and security features that Android, iOS, and Mac users already appreciate.
According to the company, DuckDuckGo for Windows does not fork any other browser code. It was developed from inception and utilises Windows WebView2 to render web pages. The browser adheres to the company’s aim of protecting online user privacy and preventing online tracking. It can prevent trackers even before they load, thereby blocking advertisements. This is allegedly why it consumes 60% less data than Chrome.
The video player in DuckDuckGo for Windows is called Duck Player. It enables users to view YouTube without being monitored. YouTube will still be able to record your video views, but they will not be incorporated into the video recommendation algorithm or advertising profiles. It is up to the user to decide whether they want to use the Duck Player consistently or only for certain videos.
The browser includes an encrypted password manager. It can retain and auto-fill all of your passwords, as well as recommend secure and robust passwords for new accounts. It includes a Cookie Pop-up Management utility that automatically chooses the most private options and conceals cookie consent pop-ups. Email Protection conceals your actual email address when registering for new websites. It replaces it with a distinct email address @duck.com.
The Fire Button option allows you to delete browsing history with a single click. You can add websites to the “Fireproof” option if you wish to remain logged into them.
However, the browser does not yet support cross-device synchronisation of bookmarks and saved credentials. In addition, extensions support is currently unavailable, but the team is working to implement these features in the future.
