In a shocking complaint lodged by the owner, his cow was allegedly found “brutally assaulted” at Gokivada village in Pithapuram mandal of East Godavari district.

The cow, who is three-months pregnant, belongs to a farmer named Nama Butchi Raju. The cow had gone missing on Sunday morning and was later found bleeding and tied to a tree at a nearby field.

The police has registered a case under crime number 192/2018, sec 2(1) (a) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and a probe has been initiated to ascertain more details.

The police did not confirm whether the cow was sexually assaulted, saying it was awaiting a report from the veterinary doctor.

Earlier this year, a pregnant goat was allegedly sodomised by eight men in Haryana’s Mewat after which the animal died
