Bengaluru: BCom student booked for making sexual remarks on Ayurveda teacher in online class

The coronavirus pandemic has led to educational institutes shifting focus to e-learning. In a shocking turn of events, a 30-year-old lecturer of a private college alleged that a youth misbehaved with her during an online class.

Based on her complaint, Jigani police registered a case of cyber-stalking against 20-year-old BCom student Hyder, a resident of Jigani who hails from Uttar Pradesh and arrested him.

According to the reports, Kamala (name changed), a lecturer with an ayurvedic college and hospital, was holding an online class between 2 pm and 3 pm on May 6. A student of Kamala, Nidhi (name changed), had a problem with her mobile phone and asked her friend, Hyder, to attend the class and brief her later.

At the end of the class, Hyder made sexual remarks against Kamala, who lodged a complaint on May 9.

“We took up a case of non-cognisable offence and converted it into a cyber-stalking case on June 3,” police said.

Hyder, who has been released on bail, confessed to his crime and apologised for it. Meanwhile, the lecturer demanded action against Nidhi as she had allowed an outsider to attend the class.

However, Nidhi has tendered an apology to the college and said that she will not repeat the mistake in future.
