Bihar Summer School Holidays 2024: The Ministry of Education of Bihar today announced the closure of all public schools from 2024-6-11 to 2024-6-15 due to severe heat wave. Extreme heat conditions that have resulted in numerous children getting sick and an early closure of up to 6/8 are what led to the decision.
The ministry’s order, citing a forecast from the Indian Meteorological Administration (IMD), predicts that heatwave conditions will persist in the state until 6-14 a.m. A holiday is also declared for teachers during this period as a precautionary measure.

“Given the conditions of the intense heatwave in the state and further warnings by the IMD, the Ministry has ordered the closure of all government-run schools in the state from 6/11 to 6/15,” the order from the Ministry of Education said.
The IMD’s Patna Center issued a recommendation urging residents to stay indoors as much as possible to avoid heat-related illnesses. On Monday, temperatures soared to 9 degrees Celsius at 44 locations, with Buxar and Bhojpur recording 45.9 degrees Celsius.
More than 20 students from government schools in the southern parts of the state fell ill on Monday, with some even fainting due to dehydration caused by the extremely hot and humid weather conditions prevailing. Six students each from Sheikhpura and Jamui, five from Banka, and one each from Chhapra, Patna, and Buxar were affected.
Extends the holiday due to heat
The government schools in Bihar reopened on Monday following a 12-day extended summer vacation due to the intense heat.
According to Sheikhpura ADM Siya Ram Singh, six students from various schools in the district became unconscious during classes on Monday due to the heatwave. The district education officer has been instructed to gather information on the students’ conditions and provide appropriate treatment.
Reports show that children also fainted in three schools in the Barbigha block of Sheikhpura, including three in Middle School, Ukhdi, two in Kanya Prathmik Vidyalaya, Sarva, and one in Jagdamba Uchh Vidyalaya, Samas. Block education officer Ravindra Kumar Rai mentioned that all the affected children were admitted to the nearby hospital and discharged after receiving treatment.
In Jamui, the health of six students worsened at different schools, and they were immediately taken to the primary health center, with two of them later transferred to the sadar hospital.
In response to a similar heatwave situation, the school education and Literacy department in Jharkhand Province issued an order to change the timing of schools on May 9. Classes from KG to standard12 now run from 6.15 am to 7am to 11.30am.
