BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh CM Sunderlal Patwa dies at 92

Former Madhya Pradesh CM Sunderlal Patwa died at a private hospital in Bhopal on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack. He was 92 years old.

Patwa was chief minister for a brief period of two months from January 20, 1980 to February 17, 1980 when he was in the Janata Party and again from March 5, 1990 to December 15, 1992 when he was in the Bharatiya Janta Party.

He was elected to Lok Sabha in 1997 after a by-poll but lost in 1998 general elections.

In 1999, he again got elected to Lok Sabha from Hoshangabad and became a minister in NDA government from 1999 to 2001.

Many political leaders condoled the death of the veteran BJP leader.

“Shri Sunder Lal Patwa strengthened the BJP & was always admired by Karyakartas. My thoughts are with his family. May his soul rest in peace,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who considers Patwa as his mentor, recalled his significant contribution to the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Congress leader Dig Vijaya Singh also condoled Patwa’s death.

Patwa was born in 1924 at Kukdeshwar in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh.
