BJP Uttar Pradesh chief Keshav Prasad Maurya on Tuesday said that a “grand” temple will be built in Ayodhya if BJP secures an outright majority in the state.

“Ram Mandir is a subject of faith. It is not going to be built in two months. The temple will be constructed after the elections. BJP will come to power with a full majority,”   Maurya told reporters.

Lashing out UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, he said the SP leader was neither with Backward Classes nor Dalits, “he only betrays”.

Commenting on the SP-Congress alliance, he said “SP is a sinking ship and that of Congress had sunk long back. Even if BSP joins it, they will not be able to salvage it.”

Maurya alleged that the entire government machinery under Yadav was embroiled in corruption and those leaders would be sent to jail if BJP came to power.

He accused Akhilesh of betraying the backward classes and claimed law and order system and women safety in the state were not accorded priority.

In January, the Supreme Court had ruled out that political parties can’t   seek vote in the name of religion, caste, race, community or language.

The BJP chief’s controversial statement, intended to woo the voters by igniting the Ram temple issue, could came under the scanner of Supreme Court in the light of the existing order.
