7:35 PM| Punjab has ordered a daily night curfew – from 7 PM to 5 AM, starting Friday – and a weekend lockdown in all 167 cities and towns in the state, as part of a strict response to the worrying surge in Covid cases.


6:45 PM| Micro-blogging platform, Twitter suffers outage. Users are unable to play videos. Early this morning, Gmail suffered massive outage worldwide with some users complaining that they can’t send any attachments or documents while a few others reported that they have not been able to log in at all.

12:09 PM| A 41-year-old painter, Ram Indranil Kamath, has been found dead at his home in Matunga, Mumbai. The area police said that his body was recovered from a bath tub. The Police have registered an accidental death case.


An IIT Kharagpur student staying in its campus on Wednesday tested positive for COVID-19, following which the institute decided to seal all the hostels, an official said.

The institute had in June asked all students, who got stranded because of lockdown, to leave the campus by June 30 and return two months later for the next semester, but a few of them remained there.

An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 was reported near Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar islands on Thursday morning, according to India’s National Center for Seismology.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 222 km south (S) of Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India, the agency said. The earthquake struck at 2:23 AM IST at a depth of 10 km from the surface.

India has reported 69,652 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours with 977 deaths, the Union Health Ministry said today. The total number of cases in the country has now surged to 28,36,925 with 53,866 deaths. A total of 20,96,664 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the infection, taking the recovery rate to 73.90 percent, the ministry informed.
