On Tuesday, the NIA court accepted the bail plea of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi. On December 12 KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi was arrested last year from his home in Jorhat for being allegedly a Maoist as well as inciting CAA protests in Assam.

Gogoi was taken into custody and had charges for ‘abetting, inciting hatred and causing disaffection towards the government’ during the anti-CAA protests in Assam in December last year.

Later, the NIA charged him under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

NIA had raided his workplace and residence which resulted in widespread protests for his release across India, his mother, Priyada Gogoi, performed an indefinite hunger strike since December 20. Mother Priyada got forced to break her fast on December 22 due to her ailing health condition.

On Tuesday the NIA court decided to grant bail to Akhil Gogoi against an amount of Rs 30,000.

KMSS chief Akhil Gogoi was released because of NIA being unable to file a charge-sheet within 90 days and it sought additional time period, which the NIA court rejected.

A popular Assamese singer Manas Robin has even raised concern and demanded the release of physically sick Akhil Gogoi, Robin demanded that Akhil be accorded proper treatment due to his ailing health on his jail term.

Gogoi has given up all the facilities in the jail and raised concern about his fellow jail inmates being fed sub-par food.
