Ahead of assembly polls, Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada constituency has become the centre of attraction. Seven candidates from different parties are not from the same family but they are each other’s relatives, who are contesting against each other in Dantewada.

Bhima Mandavi from BJP, Devti Karma from Congress, Nandaram Sori from CPI, Ballu Bhavani from Aam Aadmi Party, Keshav Netam from BSP are contesting the election. Apart from this, the rebel leader of the CPI Sudarshan Kunjam and Janta Congress Chhattisgarh rebel Jaya Kashyap are contesting independently. All of these are from the same tribal community and relatives among themselves.

Mahindra and Devti Karma’s son Chhabindra Karma was also trying to get the ticket from Congress. However, the party denied to field him, following which he made an announcement to contest independently. According to the local media reports, Rahul Gandhi asked him not to contest elections. Further, Chhabindra Karma withdrew his nomination.

Earlier, Mahendra Karma fought election from the Dantewada constituency. Under his leadership, a movement called the Salwa Judum started flourishing in the Bastar region. Under this movement, tribal villagers were prepared to fight against Naxalites. However, the Supreme Court banned the protest, after stating it illegal.

There is a major fight between Devti Karma of Congress and CPI’s candidate Nandaram Sori, who is supported by Janta Congress Chhattisgarh. Polling will take place on November 12.
