In a startling revelation, five state-run primary schools had word ‘Islamia’ prefixed to their name on the sign board and the entire documentation of the school records was done in Urdu. Moreover, these five schools were seen shut on Friday instead of Sunday.

Once the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was made aware of this discrepancy, he took strict actions against the schools. The schools have been asked to follow the norms. All such schools using ‘Islamia’ in their name have been asked to maintain official school documents in Hindi, instead of Urdu as well.

The inquiry was ordered after Salempur Block Education Officer, Gyanchand Mishra received a complaint against principal Khurshid Ahmad.

Khurshid Ahmad, said that the practice was in place when he joined the school in 2008.

When asked why the changes were brought against government rules, he said 95 per cent of the students are Muslim.
