MHA has asked Delhi govt to stop home isolation of persons who have tested positive at the review meeting chaired by home minister Amit Shah on Thursday.

Coronavirus cases in India have jumped up to 3,66,946 with the death toll from the virus taking 12,237 lives. Globally, the total number of confirmed Covid cases have crossed the 80 lakh-mark.

Centre on Thursday lifted the export ban on anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine and its formulations. The government on March 25 had banned the export of the drug in the wake of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier today, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Thursday said that under the Centre’s Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan (GKRA), migrants across 116 districts will be given work under.

“Everyone who needs an assignment in these 116 districts will be given work under Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan, broad estimated expenditure for the scheme is Rs 50,000 crores, the money allotted for this will be front-loaded,” Sitharaman said.

China has launched a nationwide campaign to inspect food imports after a new coronavirus outbreak emerged at a wholesale market in Beijing, with experts suggesting it shares similarities to European strains. "It is older than the virus currently circulating in Europe," Zhang said in a report published by the Communist Party's anti-corruption watchdog on Friday. Zhang raised the possibility of the virus lurking in imported frozen food or in the wholesale market itself, resulting in similarities to older strains.

A team of UK scientists, led by an Indian-origin researcher, has found that Covid-19 patients with extremely high levels of stress hormone cortisol in their blood are more likely to deteriorate quickly and die.The study from Imperial College London, published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, provides the first data to show that cortisol levels are a marker of the severity of the illness.The researchers suggest cortisol levels can be used to identify those patients who are more likely to need intensive care.Cortisol is produced by the body in response to stress such as illness, triggering changes in metabolism, heart function and the immune system to help our bodies cope.

The new study, conducted over 20,000 hospitalized covid-19 patients, was based on a century-old idea in medicine that has been used against measles, influenza and Ebola. As many as 2,141 persons tested positive for coronavirus in Tamil Nadu over the past 24 hours, the State Health Department said on Thursday. In a statement issued here, the Health Department said the new cases took the total tally to 52,334, while the number of Covid-19 patients who breathed their last went up by 49 to 625 persons as on Thursday.
