Delhi: Upset over failing in one subject in Class 12 board exam, girl hangs self to death

Worried about reappearing for Class 12 examination, a 17-year-old girl allegedly hanged herself to death at her house in northeast Delhi’s Harsh Vihar on Friday evening.

Going by the media reports, the girl was studying in Class XII and had appeared for the compartment exam twice in in 2017 and 2018.

On Friday she checked her result at the CBSE headquarters when she came to know that she had to appear for one of the subjects.

DCP (northeast) Atul Thakur told media that an inquest proceeding has been initiated.

He said that the preliminary probe revealed that the girl had locked herself in her room. After the girl did not respond to her family members, her younger brother went to check and found her hanging from the ceiling fan.

The family rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead and the body was shifted to the mortuary. The body was handed over to the family on Sunday after the autopsy was done.

The victim’s family members shared that ever since she got this news, she was stressed about sitting again for the examination and didn’t talk to anyone. In the evening, the girl went to her room and was found dead an hour later. No suicide note was found.
