Worship Dhanvantari and Kubera

In Dhanteras one should worship Dhanvantari, the god of Vaidya or healer of the gods, and Kubera, the god of wealth. Dhanvantari is considered as the form of Lord Vishnu. He holds nectar urn in his hands. They love brass metal, so people buy brass utensils etc. on Dhanteras.

Lamps are lit for Yama on two dates before Diwali. Light a lamp outside the house at dusk on the day of Dhanteras. This lamp is lit for Yamraj. It is believed that by lighting the lamp of Yama, Yamraj is happy and provides protection from the premature death of family members.
