Earthquake of magnitude 4.6 hit East Sikkim region

An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 hit the East Sikkim region late on Sunday midnight around 03:12 AM on Monday. Lately, a lot of earthquakes have been reported. On March 25, a moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.0 rocked India’s northeastern states and parts of Myanmar. The tremor was felt around 7 AM but no casualty was reported.

All the seven northeastern states of India namely Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur are considered by seismologists as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world. Uttarakhand is yet another earthquake prone area.

Also, on March 14, an earthquake measuring 5.9 on Richter Scale hit the Nicobar Islands Region. No injury or damage were reported. As per details by the National Centre for Seismology, a unit of Ministry of Earth Sciences, the quake, whose epicentre was in the Nicobar islands region, occurred at a depth of 10 kms.
