The holiday will begin on May 24 or 25, depending on the sighting of the new moon, and the dawn-to-dusk fasting of Ramadan will come to an end. Muslims in India have been observing fast since April 25, after the Ramadan moon was sighted on April 24. Saturday is the 29th day of Ramadan in the region.

The crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia on Friday, May 22, 2020, therefore Eid will be celebrated in Gulf countries on May 24 – Sunday.

The date of Eid will be decided upon the moon sighting on May 23, Saturday, most likely. If the moon is sighted on that day, then Eid will be celebrated on May 24, Sunday. Otherwise, it will be on May 25, 2020 – Monday.

- Indians will try to spot the moon on Saturday and if sighted, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday. Otherwise Eid-ul-Fitr 2020 will be celebrated on Monday, May 25 after fasting of days.
- In several parts of the nation, telescopes will be used from the period before Asr prayers leading up to dusk. The attempt to sight the new moon would be suspended after Maghrib prayers.
- Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated on May 24 in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore as the moon was not sighted today.
- While Ramadan began on April 24 in Arab countries, Muslims in most parts of India have been observing the fast since April 25.
The Shawwal moon has been sighted, announced the Ruet-i-Hilal committee on Saturday. Therefore, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across the country on Sunday.

Mosques will remain closed for prayers on the Eid Al-Fitr festival, Saudi and United Arab Emirates officials said on Friday, calling on the population to adhere to safety guidelines to avoid the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The Eid prayer has two rak’ahs, however, it has extra ‘takbeers’. Takbeer refers to when “Allah-Hu- Akbar” is said to begin the prayer and one raises the hands to the ears, it is an Arabic word. During normal prayers, ‘takbeer’ is said only once, but for the Eid prayer, you have to say ‘takbeer’ 12 times in two rak’ahs. In mosques, it is the Imam who delivers the khutbah (sermon) of Eid, however, that is not allowed when the prayer is performed at home.
Assam is hopeful of spotting the Shawwal crescent today. If the moon is sighted, Eid-al-Fitr 2020 will be celebrated tomorrow, May 24, 2020.
The Shawwal crescent was not sighted in any part of Australia on Saturday. The 30th Ramadan fast would be observed tomorrow and Eid al-Fitr would be celebrated on Monday, May 25.
The Shawwal crescent has so far not been sighted in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Dhaka and Grand Mosque in Colombo are expected to issue an announcement shortly.
