FIDE Chess World Cup 2023 Final: Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, is the site of the FIDE Chess World Cup final between Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa and five-time World champion Magnus Carlsen. The Indian chess master is using white pieces, whereas Carlsen will move with black pieces.

FIDE Chess World Cup 2023 Final: R Praggnanandhaa vs Magnus Carlsen:

The two Grandmasters will compete in two traditional games. The first game is slated for today (Tuesday), while the second is scheduled for August 22. The time control for each game is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes with an increment of 30 seconds per move beginning with move 1.

If the winner is still undecided after the two classical games, two tie-break games will be played in rapid format on Thursday with a time control of 25 minutes for each participant plus 10 additional seconds per move beginning with move 1.

In the event that the two tie-break games do not determine the World Cup champion, the players will compete in two additional rapid games with a time control of 10 minutes for each player plus an additional 10 seconds per move beginning with move 1.

Praggnanandhaa defeated Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura en route to the championship match.

If Praggnanandhaa defeats the Norwegian chess legend, he will become the youngest World Cup champion.

Pragg defeated Carlsen three times in 2022, including the Airthings Masters (an online rapid chess tournament), to become the youngest player to defeat Carlsen since he became world champion in 2013.

Pragg and Carlsen have met 19 times in total, with Carlsen maintaining the advantage in their head-to-head record with 8 victories. In the interim, Praggnanandhaa has emerged.
