Ganesh Chaturthi marks the birthday of Lord Ganesha, one of the most worshipped deities in Hinduism. The festival is celebrated with much fervor and pomp.
The festival is celebrated by installing Ganesha clay idols in homes and also pandals are set up. Devotees keep fasts and offer prayers to the idols. The festival ends on the tenth day after immersing the idols in a nearby water body.
Sweet Modaka which is believed to be favorite of Lord Ganesha is offered to the idol and distributed to the community. Lord Ganesha is touted as the god of new beginnings, remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom and intelligence.
