In a shocking incident, a 34-year-old software engineer allegedly murdered his wife and three children at their home in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram. Not only this, but the man also sent a video confessing the crime to a family group on WhatsApp.

The accused identified as Sumit Kumar (34) fled after the murder. He also said in the WhatsApp video that he has purchased potassium cyanide to kill self. When the accused’s sister saw the video, she alerted her brother-in-law, Pankaj Singh, who rushed to the flat.

Pankaj Singh claimed that “I found the door locked. I called the police who broke it open. We found the body of my sister and her three children with stab injuries.”

The victims have been identified as Kumar’s wife Anshu Bala (32), five-year-old son Prathmesh and twins Aarav and Aakriti (4). Anshu worked as a teacher with a playschool in Indirapuram while Kumar had quit his job in December, told the relatives. The couple had married in 2011.

From the situation, it seems that the accused had killed his family as he was not able to keep them good financially.

Sumit had been going through a financial crisis since he resigned from his job in December last year. My parents also stayed with them, but they had gone to attend a marriage around a week back. Sumit, his wife, and three children were alone in the flat,” Singh said.

In the confession video, the accused also said that he had laced the drink of his family with sedatives and killed them with sharp objects. The police are trying to trace the accused but his mobile phone is also switched off.

In the video, Sumit Kumar also named a medical store owner who allegedly overcharged him when he was buying medicines. In turn, he said, he cheated the store owner of Rs 1 lakh.

The bodies of the victims were sent for post-mortem and the police have filed an FIR after the victim’s brother filed a complaint. The accused is booked under section 302 (Murder) IPC.
