Howrah–Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper: The country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train is all set to begin operations next week, around January 17–18, 2026. The overnight service will operate between Howrah Junction in West Bengal and Kamakhya in Guwahati, Assam, and modern comfort and fast connectivity will be available to the passengers who travel between eastern and northeastern India. The inauguration is likely to be done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which will be a huge improvement for the overnight train travel in one of the busiest rail lines in India.
Howrah–Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper
Traditionally, Vande Bharat services have been known for semi-high-speed daytime journeys with chair-car seating. This new Vande Bharat Sleeper Express breaks that mold with a fully-air-conditioned overnight configuration, a first in the Indian Railways fleet. Designed especially for long-distance travel, this sleeper version blends the high standards of Vande Bharat comfort with the practicality of overnight berths.
