IMD Weather updates: These states are expected to receive heavy rainfall

A low-pressure area above the north-eastern region of Madhya Pradesh has resulted in two days of continuous rain in a portion of the state.

IMD Weather updates: On August 22, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts an increase in rainfall activity over east and northeast India.Until August 23, the IMD predicts extremely intense precipitation over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Assam, and Meghalaya.

“The Monsoon Trough is active and is located south of its typical position. From the 21st of August, it is likely to shift progressively to the north, according to an IMD statement.

Over the next three to five days, the Met Office predicts that subdued rainfall activity will persist over southern portions of Peninsular India and Gujarat.

Met warns of torrential rain in Himachal between August 22 and August 24.

In its 5-day forecast, the weather service predicted that Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will likely experience heavy to extremely heavy precipitation. On August 21, the IMD has also issued a ‘yellow alert’ for torrential rain in Himachal. The Met Office also warned of a moderate risk of flash flooding in the catchment areas of the districts of Chamba and Mandi and forecasted a rainy period until August 26.

According to the Met Office, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience moderate, fairly widespread rainfall along with thunderstorms and lighting, with isolated heavy rainfall in some locations between August 21 and 24.

IMD Weather Updates: Issues five-day heavy rain alert for the Northeast

The Met Office has issued a five-day warning for heavy rainfall in the northeastern provinces of the country. IMD also noted that, with the exception of two northeastern states — Manipur and Mizoram — the remainder of the region has received normal monsoon rainfall.

“Moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal to the northeast is very probable due to strong low-level southerly/southwesterly winds. During the next four to five days, widespread moderate to very heavy rainfall/thunderstorms with lightning are expected over the Northeast region due to the influence of a tropical storm.

Heavy precipitation falls in Punjab, Haryana

Sunday’s heavy rainfall in Chandigarh and neighbouring states caused the temperature to decline a few degrees. The weather service reported that the rain provided respite from the oppressive heat.

Meanwhile, the cities of Mohali in Punjab and Panchkula in Haryana were drenched. According to the meteorological office, Punjab and Haryana will experience more rain over the next two days.

The IMD has issued an amber alert for portions of Madhya Pradesh.

On Sunday, the regional meteorological department of Madhya Pradesh issued a 24-hour warning for ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall’ in sections of the state. A low-pressure area above the north-eastern region of Madhya Pradesh has resulted in two days of continuous rain in a portion of the state.

According to the IMD’s most recent forecast, heavy rainfall is expected to persist over Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan for the next two to three days.
