India and South Africa are set to take on each other in the three-match ODI series, starting from 19th January 2022. The first ODI is slated to take place at Boland Park, Paarl on Wednesday.

India’s newly appointed skipper, Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury. In his absence, KL Rahul is appointed as the skipper for the upcoming series, while Jasprit Bumrah will assume the vice-captaincy duties.

Virat Kohli will be playing as a player and not as a captain after four years. Nevertheless, he will be an integral part of the middle-order, which also consists of the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rishabh Pant.

As for the openers, India have picked the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ishan Kishan. However, KL Rahul has confirmed that he will open the innings, which means that Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan won’t make the cut for the first ODI.

Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace attack. He is likely to share the fast bowling duties with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Siraj.

South Africa would be brimming with confidence after having won the Test series against India by a 2-1 margin. Temba Bavuma will lead South Africa’s team in the series.

They have a pretty balanced team and are likely to give a tough fight to the visitors. Quinton de Kock is back in the ODI series and should open the batting. His partner, Janneman Malan, who has made a dream start to his ODI career, will be a guy to watch out for.

The middle-order will comprise the likes of Rassie van der Dussen, Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram among others. The presence of all-rounders like Andile Phehlukwayo and Dwaine Pretorius adds a great balance to their team.

They have two potent spinners in Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj, while the fast bowling unit consists of the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Lungi Ngidi to name a few.
