The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squads for the forthcoming bilateral series against Sri Lanka, set to begin on January 3, 2023. The Men in Blue will host the Islanders across six locations in India for three T20Is and the same number of ODIs.

Hardik Pandya will captain the Twenty20 International team, with Suryakumar Yadav as his deputy. Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar, who earned significant sums in the IPL Auction 2023, have been included in the T20I team. Regular captain Rohit Sharma is sidelined with a thumb injury, while KL Rahul and Virat Kohli have also been rested.

Rohit Sharma will return to head the squad in one-day internationals, and Pandya will serve as his vice captain. Kohli will also return to action for the ODIs. Rishabh Pant does not appear in either of the two teams, therefore it is unclear whether he has been rested or dropped. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan has been named to both squads.

Team India has had two consecutive poor performances in the 50-over format against Bangladesh and New Zealand, losing both series. With the 2023 ODI World Cup in mind, the team will seek to establish a powerful unit and play an aggressive brand of cricket.

Hardik Pandya led India to a 1-0 series victory over New Zealand in their most recent Twenty20 International match. The Lankan Lions, on the other hand, will be playing their first 20-over match since the T20 World Cup 2022 and will look to start the year on a positive note.
