International Respect for Chickens Day 2023: May 4 is International Respect for Chickens Day. It is a day dedicated to promoting the compassionate and considerate treatment of poultry and other domestic fowl. In 2005, United Poultry Concerns was founded on this date. United Poultry Concerns was founded by Karen Davis not only for chickens, but also for other domestic farm animals such as turkeys and ducks. These birds are raised for food production, research, education, and entertainment. International Respect for Chickens Day seeks to alleviate the suffering and plight of chickens by increasing public awareness of their fate. The day also highlights the benefits and significance of a vegan lifestyle.

International Day of Respect for Chickens: A Brief History

They claim that poultry are descendants of dinosaurian birds. By observing their ferocity, we can conclude that these magnificent creatures have not forgotten about their ancestors. Male poultry are known as cocks, while females are known as hens. The names Biddy, rooster, capon, chick, and pullet, among others, are used in various situations and conditions. Chickens are the most pervasive domesticated animals and can be found virtually everywhere a human population exists.

The feral poultry evolved from jungle birds. They are chicken-like animals that inhabited Southeast Asia approximately 50 million years ago. DNA analysis and mathematical models place the ancestry of poultry 58,000 years in the past. There is an intriguing insight to be gained from these numbers. Approximately 340 million years ago, the first amniotic eggs appeared, and approximately 58,000 years ago, the first chickens appeared. This answers the age-old question of whether the chicken or the egg arrived first.

Domestication of the poultry occurred approximately 8,000 years ago in Southeast Asia and then spread globally. Chickens were not initially utilised as a sustenance source. They were used in cockfighting for entertainment purposes. Only between 400 and 200 B.C., during the Hellenistic period, did people in the Southern Levant region begin to use chickens as a sustenance source. However, since their domestication, the condition of these magnificent birds has never been excellent. Due to the living conditions and incessant abuse, they suffered. United Poultry Concerns established International Respect for Chickens Day in an effort to make the world a better place for chickens and other domesticated fowl and to create a more compassionate society. We are also striving to increase compassion towards chickens and other domesticated birds.
