IPL 2019: Virat Kohli needs 46 runs to become second player to score 5000 IPL runs

The world’s most-watched cricketing tournament, Indian Premier League (IPL) has entered its 12th edition. On Thursday, Royal Challengers Bangalore will lock horns with Mumbai Indians and the opportunity is with RCB skipper Virat Kohli to reach yet another milestone in his illustrious career.

Skipper Virat Kohli stands just 46 runs away from becoming the second player to score 5000 runs in Indian Premier League after Chennai Super Kings’ Suresh Raina. Raina achieved the feat in CSK’s opening match against RCB in Chennai on March 23 by scoring 19 runs.

By the start of the IPL 2019, Kohli was just 52 runs away to add another feather in his cap but he failed to score as many runs and was dismissed by CSK’s Harbhajan Singh at a score of 6 runs only. The 30-year-old has scored four centuries and 34 half-centuries in his IPL career and interestingly all his four tons came in the 2016 edition of the IPL, where he amassed a sensational 973 runs in just 16 matches.

Kohli was picked up by RCB on a youth contract in 2008 after that he has gone on becoming the biggest name in world cricket right now and the swashbuckling batsman has shattered uncountable records in international cricket in the last couple of years. Kohli has as many as 4954 runs to his name in 164 matches in the IPL at an average of 38.10.

Kohli has been a magnificent player in IPL, still, he is unable to win any IPL trophy as the Bengaluru-based outfit is yet to win an IPL trophy and would be hoping to lift the coveted trophy this time around.

All eyes will be on Virat Kohli as RCB host Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians on Thursday for match 7 of IPL 2019 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Virat Kohli will be not only eyeing to reach the landmark of scoring 5000 IPL runs but his main concern would be to win the game in a bid to build on early momentum for the team.
