People are still mourning the deaths of over in 100 children in Gorakhpur‘s BRD Medical College, while a similar incident has gripped a government hospital in Jharkhand. The only government and perhaps the biggest hospital in Kolhan, MGM Hospital, has witnessed the deaths of at least 64 children in the last 30 days.

The director of the hospital has ordered an investigation into the matter. However, he alleged that malnutrition was the reason behind these deaths.

Most of these children come from the rural background. The incident has once again questioned the performance and functions of the health department as well as the local administration.

As per the World Bank estimates, India is one of the highest ranking countries in the world where children suffer from malnutrition.

According to data released by the National Family Health Survey 2015-16, almost 47.8% of the children in Jharkhand, who are under five years of age, are underweight.
