Jharkhand: Husband sets ablaze wife, one-year-old daughter for dowry

Despite endless efforts, crimes like harassment, torture and murder for dowry continues to prevail in our society. In a recent dowry death, a 22 year old woman and her one-year-old daughter were allegedly doused with kerosene and burnt alive bu her husband and in-laws at Buchi village of Jharkhand’s Deoghar district.

Going by the reports, the deceased identified as Rukshana, was married to Ansari in 2017. Ansari worked at a private factory in West Bengal’s Howrah, while his wife stayed with his parents in the village.

Police officials told media persons that Ansari and his parents used to harass Rukhsana for dowry. On Saturday, Rukshana’s mother had come to reportedly take her back however, Ansari and his parents did not allow Rukshana to leave.

The incident came to light when the neighbours very next morning approached the police and informed about the stench emanating from Ansari’s locked house. Upon receiving the information, police officials reached the spot where they found the charred bodied of Rukhsana and her infant daughter.

An FIR has been registered in the matter and efforts are on to nab the absconding Ansari and his family.
