Jharkhand: Scam unearthed at Sainik School Tilaiya

Ranchi: In an investigation carried out by the technical cell of the surveillance department has confirmed the scam in the residential building of the Sainik School (Tilaiya). The residential building costs around 6.60 crores rupees.

On the basis of the report filed by the technical cell, School Education Secretary AP Singh has recommended the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to lodge an FIR against the contractors and guilty engineers. A residential building had been constructed on behalf of the Building Construction Division Hazaribagh.

The building was handed over the school management in 2015. After a few days, the roof of the newly constructed building started leaking and water started dripping out from the ceiling and the cracks were developed in the walls.

The school management complained to the highest authorities regarding the poor construction work. Following that the School Education Department recommended an investigation by the special technical cell. Several other irregularities were also found by the technical team in their investigation.

Work done without engineers estimates

During the investigation, the special team found that engineers from Building Construction Division Hazaribagh did the other construction work including the repairing. There were no estimates for the above-sanctioned work and neither any government money was spent on the construction.

The investigation reports suggest that Engineers were hand in glove with the contractors and tried to hide the faulty construction and repair works. The report held the contractors and the Superintending Engineer Nishikant Prasad, Assistant Engineer John Dag, and the junior engineer Atul Shekhar responsible in this matter.

It has been said in the report that these engineers changed the specification of the construction work at their own level. Instead of the specification, they use the material on their own. Also, the second agreement was not signed with the contractors, which is wrong. Superintending Engineer Baban Das also approved those extra works at his own level, which needed an approval from the level of Chief Engineer.
