India’s second innings has collapsed badly in the ongoing Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide against Australia. Australian Pace attack completely nullified India’s batting order and sent 9 batsmen to the pavilion at the cost of India’s lowest ever Test score of 36. Definitely, an inning to forget for the Indian Cricket team and their fans.
Australian bowlers clearly didn’t show any mercy to Virat and Company on Day 3 in Adelaide. As their pace attack lead by evergreen Pat Cummings and Josh Hazelwood dismantled the top order and then swipe up the tail quickly unlike Indian bowlers in the first innings. Hazelwood claimed 5 wickets while Pat Cummings had 4 wickets in his pocket after India declared at 36. Mohammad Shami was retired hurt courtesy of Pat cummings nasty short ball which hit the Indian pacer on the forearms.
Also, this spell of Hazlewood included him in record books among some legendary Australians.
Fewest runs conceded from a five-wicket haul in Tests for Australia:
5-2 Ernie Toshack v IND Brisbane 1947
5-6 Bert Ironmonger v RSA Melbourne 1932
5-8 Josh Hazlewood v IND Adelaide 2020
5-9 Tim May v WI Adelaide 1993
6-9 Michael Clarke v IND Mumbai 2004
Not only was this was India’s lowest score ever but it was also the joint lowest in the Test Format on Australian soil (also 36 by South Africa vs Australia, February 1932 in Melbourne). Stats via Opta Jim.
Before this day India’s lowest ever score was 42 against England in 1974.
