Lucknow: Municipal Corporation to manufacture phenol using cow urine, to be sold as 'Gonyle'

In its pilot project, Lucknow Municipal Corporation is soon to launch a phenol using ‘Gaumutra’ (Cow Urine), which will be sold in open market.

Manufactured at its bovine shelter better known as Kanha Upvan, the product, aptly named ‘Gonyle’, is currently being used as a floor cleaner and disinfectant at LMC offices. It is expected to be produced on a mass scale and sold in the open market as soon as the test drive is successful.

A TOI report quoted chief veterinary officer of LMC Arvind Rao who said that “We are the first municipal corporation in the country to produce phenol from cow urine. At present, nearly 100 litres are being manufactured daily for use on the Upvan premises and at LMC offices,”  Arvind Rao.

As per the reports, the officials said seven are required to manufacture 100 litres of this gomutra phenol. LMC is planning to hire more manpower and procure extra machines to increase production. The surplus would be sold in the market through wholesalers.
