The voting for fifth General Panchayat polls in Manipur began on Saturday morning from 8 am as people queued up in large numbers to cast their vote to choose new local body representatives including Zilla Parishad, Pradhan and ward members.  Re-polling will be held on October 9, 2017, for the same in case of any election misconduct.

A total of 7,16,813 voters including 3,68,691 females and 3,48,139 males will cast their vote. Voters have to cast their vote in privacy in three ballot papers – Pradhan is in yellow, Zilla Parishad in pink and Gram Panchayat member in white.

Voting will take place in all six valley districts of Manipur including Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Jiribam, Kakching, and Thoubal. Around 1,521 polling stations have been set to elect 60 Zilla Parishad Members, 161 Pradhans, and 1,513 ward members.

While the counting of votes will take place on October 11, the entire process would be completed by October 16. The current term expires on October 23.
