National Black Marketers Day 2023 History, Activities, FAQs, Dates, and Facts About black marketing

National Black Marketers Day 2023: National Black Marketers Day is annually observed on November 16. The holiday commemorates the impact that Black culture had on the marketing industry and honors the accomplishments of Black marketers in the United States. The Black Marketers Coalition (B.M.C.) established this holiday, and in the week preceding it, they frequently host enjoyable networking and happy hour gatherings. In addition to its annual celebrations, the Black Marketers Coalition organizes monthly discussions featuring industry experts. As they converse with black marketers and their associates about current events, they gain insight from one another and exchange information.

National Black Marketers Day History

Marketing is critical to the achievement of organizational objectives in terms of client engagement, advertising, and the development of long-lasting relationships. Nonetheless, marketers’ efforts and accomplishments are occasionally overlooked, which is problematic, particularly for black marketers. In 2019, the Black Marketers Coalition (B.M.C.) was established in Atlanta, Georgia, with this objective in mind. B.M.C.’s objective was to assist black marketers across the nation, both within and beyond the professional sphere. The B.M.C. established connections with more than 500 Black marketers and their allies in the United States through employment promotions and a focus on fostering strong relationships rather than conducting business.

Sequoyah Glenn, the proprietor of B.M.C., began her marketing career with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a fan service coordinator. Her aspirations were thwarted by a dearth of representation, inadequate guidance from her peers, inequitable compensation and responsibilities, and insufficient guidance. Glenn observed that Black marketers and businesses were addressed, or failed to be approached, in a manner distinct from that of other organizations. As a result of her observations and frustrations, Glenn established a consulting firm that assists black and underrepresented companies seeking to connect with diverse or black consumers.

One of the primary sources of motivation for Glenn in establishing the B.M.C. was industrialist John H. Johnson, who established Johnson Publishing Company, the inaugural Black media organization in America and a precursor to the industry for Black marketers. Johnson Publishing Company was the publisher of “Ebony” and “Jet.” These publications documented Black culture, fashion, music, politics, and more for decades. Johnson’s impact on the industry was immeasurable, and his vision continues to endure despite his demise in 2005. National Black Marketers Day was established to honor the impact of African Americans in the media and market.
