HISTORY OF NATIONAL HOMEMADE SOUP DAY

Soup has remained a globally popular food for many decades. However, European nations were primarily responsible for its inception and development. Its discovery proved crucial for restaurants around the globe, as its demand among the populace has steadily risen.

Soup dates back to approximately 20,000 B.C., before people utilised current cooking equipment or methods. The boiling of food was a typical method of preparation and service. After the development of watertight clay pots, boiling became more prevalent and humans began cooking vegetation and animals. Their diet consisted primarily of liquids including bits of meat and/or vegetables. This is how soup first came to be.

The root of the term “soup” is the French word “soupe,” which means broth. This French term is derived from the Latin word’suppa,’ which signifies a slice of bread that has been soaked.

In the 18th century, French street sellers began selling high-quality foreign soups known as restauratifs, which led to the establishment of the first restaurants. In addition, in 1765, a certain businessman in Paris built a shop devoted only to the preparation of high-quality soups. In addition to Europe, North America also contributed to the evolution of soup. William Parks authored one of the earliest cookbooks, which had a significant impact on Americans interested in cooking. Several parts of the book offered soup recipes and preparation methods. Emma Pike Ewing authored “Soup and Soup Making,” a brochure on American soups that was distributed nationwide. The 18th century also saw the invention of portable soup containers, which made soup even more popular.
