Samajwadi Party (SP) minister Gayatri Prajapati who is accused of rape is still on the loose; the Apex Court has heard a plea on Monday against his arrest. Prajapati’s issue stirring up Uttar Pradesh is raising a lot of questions. In fact, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh has written a letter to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav asking why Gayatri Prajapati is still not removed from his ministerial post.

As the case picks up pace, PM Modi taking a jibe at Akhilesh Yadav said that the voters in Uttar Pradesh have got an opportunity to perform the “pind daan” (last rites) of their “tormentors”, referring to women safety in UP.

He also said that unlike the BJP, its opponents believed in “kuch ka saath, kuch ka hi vikas (with a few, development of a few)”.
“In this country, when we do something good, we chant the Gayatri Mantra. But, the SP-Congress alliance is chanting the Gayatri Prajapati Mantra.”

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Monday refused to stay the arrest of Gayatri Prajapati for allegedly raping and blackmailing a woman.

“A case has been lodged against him (but) the chief minister went to campaign for him while he (Gayatri) was present there…Now, the police cannot trace him,” said PM Modi in the rally. Passport of UP minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati already been impounded, said ADG (law and order) Daljit Chaudhary.
