Odisha: Kangaroo court orders mob to shave heads of couple, parade them on streets for love affair

Upon knowing the boy belongs to another community, villagers barged into the girl’s house and forcefully shaved the duo’s head.

In yet another incident of mob taking the law into their hands, a group of villagers in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district allegedly shaved heads of a couple and paraded them on the streets in front of the villagers. Mob also made a video of the incident and released it on social media.

The incident took place on Saturday night when the boy in his early 30s had gone to Mandua to meet his girlfriend who was ailing for some days. Upon knowing the boy belongs to another community, villagers barged into the girl’s house, caught them together and dragged the two out. They produced the couple at the kangaroo court.

As per decision of the kangaroo court, the villagers forcefully shaved the duo’s head and paraded them on the streets.

On getting information, a team of police rushed to the village and rescued the love birds. Based on the complaint filed by the girl, Karanjia Police have registered a case against 21 persons.

“The incident occurred on June 22 and the girl had lodged a complaint yesterday. Already a case has been registered and necessary action will be taken in connection with the incident,” said Karanjia SDPO, Narayan Nayak.

Meanwhile, the cops have arrested three persons in connection with the incident.
