In 1998, Remark, a California-based anti-corporate group, proclaimed that Phone in Sick Day would be observed in the United States, in Europe and the United States, Phone in Sick Day was first observed on April 6.
In 2000, the date was altered to May 1 in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Some other nations have adopted May 2 as National Call in Sick Day. The date was changed to coincide with May Day, or International Workers’ Day. May’s proximity to summer is another justification for moving the commemoration to that month. Everyone applauded the decision because one of the primary components of Phone in Sick Day is entertainment.
