Following the Congress Working Committee’s meeting, while interacting with the press, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi made announcements regarding the party’s manifesto promises on Monday.

“We will do justice by the poor people of the country through the Minimum Income Guarantee scheme. There has been no such scheme in the whole world. Congress party guarantees that 20 per cent of the families below the poverty line will get Rs 72,000 annually,” Rahul Gandhi said. He further added that “5 crore families, 25 crore people will benefit from the scheme. Minimum Income Line will be Rs 12000. If you’re income is below the mark then we will help you get there. This will be a fiscally prudent scheme,”

In January, while speaking at Kisan Rally in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi had announced, that “In 2019 Congress-led government” will provide “Minimum Income Guarantee”. He had said, “Every poor of the country is going to get Minimum income in his bank account. No one in India will remain without food, no one will remain poor.” Rahul Gandhi had called it back then a historic decision, claiming that no government in the world has taken this decision.
