Rahul Gandhi has delivered on the surprise he promised ahead of Lok Sabha elections. In an official press release on Wednesday, January 23, it was announced that KC Venugopal was appointed All India Congress Committee General Secretary (Organisation).

After the appointment of senior Congressman Ashok Gehlot as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, the post of Congress general secretary (in-charge of organisation and training) remained vacant. The post that is considered second to that of party president Rahul Gandhi’s had several key contenders to fill in the spot. The nation had been in speculations over the new face of AICC General Secretary in-charge Organisation.

However, in the recent turn of events, the official note signed by Ashok Gehlot read, “Hon’ble Congress President Rahul Gandhi has appointed Shri KC Venugopal as AICC General Secretary with immediate effect. He will continue in his role as AICC General Secretary In-charge for Karnataka.”

With this new development, the party extended its heartiest regards and appreciations to Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot for his contribution to the party as AICC General Secretary (Organisation) till now.

KC Venugopal, who was appointed as AICC General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka on 29 April 2017, will now take the charge of the party’s General Secretary (in-charge of organisation and training) post with immediate effects will continue his responsibilities as AICC General Secretary for Karnataka.

  • Venugopal came to active politics through the Student Movement of the Indian National Congress.
  • He became the State President of the Kerala Students Union and State President of the Indian Youth Congress.
  • He has been on a right trajectory of a political career in his party.

From being a president of the Payyanur College unit of the Kerala Students Union (KSU) to his induction in the Union Cabinet, it was a long journey for a leader of his age.
