10 Lives Lost in Odisha Lightning Strikes

Monsoon activity has regained strength across Jharkhand, including the capital city of Ranchi, bringing much-needed rainfall after a period of weak monsoon activity. Following light rain on September 9, a deep low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to trigger heavy showers over the next three days.

The Meteorological Centre in Ranchi has issued an Orange Alert for September 10 and 11, and a Yellow Alert for September 12. Heavy rainfall is predicted for most districts, including Ranchi, with warnings of potential thunderstorms and lightning. The weather department has urged the public to remain cautious.

Heavy Rain and Lightning Expected

According to meteorologist Abhishek Anand, the deep low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal moved inland at a speed of 8 km/h, crossing the Odisha coast late Monday evening. As a result, Jharkhand is now experiencing rain and gusty winds. Districts like Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, and Simdega are expected to receive the heaviest rainfall.

Ranchi experienced intermittent rainfall on Monday, with temperatures dropping across the state. The highest recorded temperature in Jharkhand was 36.7°C in Godda, while Ranchi had the lowest minimum temperature at 23.4°C. The weather department expects a further drop in temperatures over the next few days.

Weather Forecast for the Coming Days

Ranchi is expected to have overcast skies with light to moderate rain over the next few days. On Tuesday, the city’s maximum temperature is predicted to be around 28°C, with the minimum temperature hovering around 23°C.

Safety Advisory from the Weather Department

The department has issued a public advisory, urging people to stay alert during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. To avoid the risk of lightning strikes, it is recommended that people remain indoors and avoid standing under trees or in open spaces during thunderstorms.

While the rainfall is a relief for farmers and beneficial for the overall climate of Jharkhand, the public is advised to heed the warnings issued by the weather department. With heavy rain and potential thunderstorms on the horizon, precautions are necessary to ensure safety during this period of intensified monsoon activity.
