Ram Naik Bio: On July 22, 2014, in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Ram Naik took the oath of office after being appointed Governor of Uttar Pradesh by the Honorable President of India on July 14, 2014. From 13th October 1999 to 13th May 2004, he served as the Cabinet Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas in the government commanded by Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

After the creation of a separate Ministry for Petroleum & Natural Gas in 1963, he is the only minister to have led the ministry for the entire five years. He was a member of the BJP National Executive Committee as well as the National Convener of the ‘Good Governance Cell’, which was established to improve the efficacy and effectiveness of Ministers in BJP-ruled states. Shri Naik determined that he would not run for the 2014 Lok Sabha election and would instead continue to work for the BJP and share his political expertise.

The decision was announced at a press conference conducted on the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, who led the Bharatiya Jana Sangh with his characteristic simplicity and expounded the theory of Integral Humanism, on September 25, 2013. Political career

Ram Naik was a member of the Thirteenth Lok Sabha and the Oil and Natural Gas Minister in the ministry of Atal Bihari Vajpayee from 1999 to 2004. He played a significant role in establishing the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme and he was the BJP candidate for Mumbai North in the 14th Lok Sabha elections, but he succumbed to Govinda, the famous Bollywood actor and INC candidate from Virar.

He has been a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh volunteer since his youth and possesses a degree in law. In 1964, he began his political career with the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and helped organise a group of Mumbai transit commuters. In 1978, he was elected to the state assembly to represent Borivali. He was re-elected twice before being appointed Minister of State for Railways in 1998, when he was influential in the formation of the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation.

In 2004, he issued a statement in which he demanded an apology from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and chairwoman Sonia Gandhi for the removal of inscriptions from statues honouring Indian revolutionaries such as Subhas Chandra Bose, Madan Lal Dhingra, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Bhagat Singh, and Bahadur Shah Zafar.

Ram Naik declared in September 2013 that he will not run for Lok Sabha in 2014. He was appointed as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh on July 14, 2014.

Within a few months of his appointment as governor, he declared, “The Ram Temple should be constructed as soon as possible; this is what the people of this country want, and their desires should be met.” Hindutva groups promptly backed the argument. Subsequently, Narendra Modi appears to have reined in his Hindutva remarks.

Personal life:

He was born in the Maharashtra district of Sangli. He wed Kunda Naik on May 17, 1960, and they have two daughters.
