For Tamil Hindus, Skanda Sashti is a fortunate day. It is devoted to Lord Murugan worship. On this day, devotees fast in order to appease the deity and ask for His blessings for a joyful and fruitful life.
Every month of the Hindu calendar, on the sixth day of Krishna Paksha, Sashti is observed.
Skanda Sashti October 2022 Date: October 30, Sunday.
Tithi Timing: October 30, 5:50 am – October 31, 3:28 am.
Sashti Rituals:
To appease Lord Murugan, devotees observe a partial or complete fast.
The fasting starts at sunrise and ends the following day after prayers are offered to the Sun God.
Fruit can be eaten when partially fasting.
Those with health problems might observe the fast by only eating one meal every day.
Alcohol consumption and eating non-vegetarian meals are absolutely forbidden.
Devotees of Lord Murugan also study the Skanda Purana and chant the Skanda Shasti Kavacham on this day.
The evening is a very lucky time to visit the temples dedicated to Lord Murugan.
Sashti Significance:
It is believed that those who fast and give prayers on Sashti would be blessed by Lord Murugan.
