Top 10 Indian States Men Prefer to Work in 2026

As per the report of the India Skills Report 2026, which is released by Wheebox, a global firm specializing in education and talent solutions’ and supported by employment data collected during the previous year, male workers’ preferences are changing owing to economic growth expectations, industrial development, job creation measures, and living standards.

The statistics indicate a definite progress in men’s employment readiness throughout India. In 2019, merely 34.26 per cent of males who participated in the Global Employability Test were rated as employable. This figure remained constant in 2020 and 2021, signifying a period of minor developments.

Why Uttar Pradesh Tops the List?

The rise of Uttar Pradesh to the position of the most preferred state for men in 2026 is a significant change in the economic scenario of India. UP, which was for a long time considered to be a state with enormous demographic potential but poor industrial growth, has recently undergone a dramatic change that can be attributed to:

Through massive employment initiatives and job fairs, lakhs of jobs for youth will be created across sectors by early 2026.

Investment in industry and manufacturing is booming, and many factories and units are moving in, which is indirectly and directly increasing the number of jobs.

Policy reforms have not only attracted new investors but also increased the activity of businesses in UP and made it a hub for both blue-neck and white-neck workers.

The combined impact of these measures has apparently communicated a strong message to the jobseekers, which has positioned Uttar Pradesh above the usual places of employment.

However, in spite of the climbing status of states like Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, Delhi is still regarded very highly as a place to find work. The capital city is famous for its range of activities from government and administrative services to startups, MNCs, and tech firms. Moreover, the fact that Delhi is still among the first ten cities in terms of recruitment is a clear indication of the ongoing demand for both skilled and semi-skilled workers.

Nevertheless, the information derived from wage reports suggests that in the end, the high price of living and the competition in the job market are the primary factors that influence where job seekers eventually decide to move or settle places.

In 2026, these trends are expected to be even more pronounced, as we enter the year deeper and deeper. Urban centres that are less traditional will still be the target of job seekers as the industrial sectors of states like Uttar Pradesh are developing and states like Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh are focusing on innovation.
