UP: Woman cop attacked with acid by four miscreants after refusing marriage proposal

The woman has suffered 40 percent burns and is now out of danger

A woman police constable was attacked with acid by four miscreants which included a man who was forcing her to marry him. The cop has sustained burn injuries and the incident took place in the Sadar area of Mathura on Thursday morning.

The constable deployed at Sri Krishna Janmabhoom was 20 years old told the police.

Senior superintendent of police said a case has been registered Section 326A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by the use of acid) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Mathura Sadar police station against the prime accused Sanjay Singh (25), Sonu and two other unknown men.

He also said“Initially, she was taken to the emergency ward of SN Hospital in Agra but was later admitted to a private hospital. According to doctors, she has been shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and her condition is being monitored.”

According to the sub-inspector the woman has suffered 40 percent burns and is now out of danger. She has herself filed an FIR against the men.

The SSP said “The accused men were waiting for her near her house and fled after throwing acid on her. She sustained burns on the left side of her face, arm, and back. We have launched a hunt for the accused,” Pankaj said, adding that two of them had been identified by the victim.

“The main accused, Sanjay Singh of Bulandshahr, had been forcing the victim to marry him but she had turned down his proposal,” he said.

Also, the police are questioning Sanjay Singh’s family in relation to the matter.
