The upper-caste uncle-nephew, who was quarantined in Okhalkanda block in Nainital, refused to eat the food made by a Dalit woman.

Nainital: On one hand, where the nationwide lockdown has united every citizen and people are coming together to help each other, incident like discriminating Dalits is disgusting. Discrimination on the grounds of caste has been abolished way back in India. Yet it has been brewing in several parts of the country.

The upper-caste uncle-nephew, who was quarantined in Okhalkanda block in Nainital, refused to eat the food made by a Dalit woman. The responsibility of making food in the center has been given to the Dalit woman.

The village head filed a complaint against the duo regarding the same at Patwari Police Station under the SC/ST Act.

Both uncle-nephew are the residents of Haldwani, Himachal Pradesh who are quarantined at a school turned quarantine centre at Bhumka village, Nainital.

According to the village head Mukesh Chandra, “5 migrants are quarantined at this centre. Among them 3 are Dalits and 2 belongs to upper-caste. The uncle-nephew refused to eat the food prepared by the Dalit woman”.
