CAA Protest: Assam secretariat employees wear black bages on duty

Assam Secretariat members have staged a protest against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) by wearing a black badge while being on duty. They said they have put on a black badge to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Assam Govt has warned its employees of disciplinary action for writing politically motivated messages on social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, and Instagram.

Sadou Asom Karmachari, an apex employee body of Assam, leader, Basav Kalita along with 4,50,000 members stated that “The govt is trying to suppress our voice and that is injustice.”

Kalita from the same group said, “We don’t support calls for violence but the call for democratic rights is legitimate and should be provided to them, The following year should be considered as a black year since this is the year when we saw the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act.”

Among the states in the Northeast, the outrage against CAG has been the most intense in Assam. While a chunk of these states has been exempted from the legislation, CAB overs a large part of Assam. The protests stem from the fear that illegal Bengali Hindu migrants from Bangladesh if regularised under CAB, will threaten cultural and linguistic identities of the state.
