10: 50PM| The UP police have issued a high alert across the state given the verdict, in the Babri mosque demolition case, to be delivered by the special CBI court (Ayodhya case) in Lucknow, said senior police officials.


A special court in Lucknow is set to deliver the much-awaited judgment on Wednesday in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case in which BJP veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi are among the accused. CBI judge SK Yadav had on September 16 directed all the 32 surviving accused to remain present in the court on the day of the judgment. The accused include former deputy prime minister Advani, former Union ministers Joshi and Uma Bharti, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh, besides Vinay Katiyar and Sadhvi Rithambara.

Congress’ UP in-charge Priyanka Gandhi attacked the Yogi Adityanath government after the family of the 19-year-old Dalit woman, who died in a Delhi hospital a fortnight after she was gang-raped, alleged that the police forcibly cremated her body in the middle of the night.

Meanwhile, CM Yogi Adityanath formed a three-member SIT to investigate the Hathras gangrape incident, the team to submit a report within 7 days. CM also directed for trial of the case in a fast-track court.

With India recording 80,472 new cases and 1,179 deaths in the last 24 hours ending 8 am on Wednesday, the total number of coronavirus infections crossed the 62 lakh-mark to reach 62,25,764. Of the total, 97,497 people have succumbed to the virus, 9,40,441 are active cases, while as many as 51,87,826 people have been treated and discharged so far.

The global death toll due to Covid-19 passed the one million mark on Tuesday, most of which have been reported in the United States, followed by Brazil and India. These three countries account for nearly 45%  of Covid-19 deaths globally. According to Reuters, over 5,400 people die from the disease every 24 hours. This results in around 226 people succumbing to disease per hour, or one person every 16 seconds.
