Indian Railways has not only revealed a new train but has also put into practice a decade of research and development at the core of the event. The Vande Bharat Sleeper train already has its baggage with the portrayal of giving better connectivity, less travel time, and more comfort available on the long-distance trips.
Howrah–Guwahati Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Launch Features
Unlike earlier Vande Bharat services designed primarily for daytime inter-city travel, this Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is crafted for overnight comfort. It will run six days a week between Howrah Junction (HWH) and Kamakhya Junction (KYQ), with train numbers 27575 (Howrah→Kamakhya) and 27576 (Kamakhya→Howrah).

Scheduled departures are in the evening around 6:20 pm from Howrah and 6:15 pm from Kamakhya with arrivals the next morning, offering convenient overnight connectivity.
Designed and manufactured indigenously under the “Make in India” initiative, the sleeper variant extends the success of the existing Vande Bharat fleet into long-haul, overnight routes.
An official statement conveyed, “The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is a shining example of the Make in India initiative, as its three most critical systems – the bogie, propulsion system and vehicle control system – have been entirely designed and developed within the country, making it a fully indigenous train set.”
Route, Stations and Timings
The Vande Bharat Sleeper will cover nearly 968 kilometres over a network of major stations spanning Assam, West Bengal, and adjoining regions. Along the way, it will stop at key junctions including Bandel, Nabadwip Dham, Katwa, Azimganj, Malda Town, New Jalpaiguri, New Cooch Behar, New Alipurduar, New Bongaigaon and Rangiya, among others.

The inaugural service on January 17 will also feature special departures from Malda Town and Kamakhya, giving travellers and rail enthusiasts a first look at this cutting-edge overnight service.
From a passenger’s perspective, the sleeper Vande Bharat is more than just a train, it’s a premium overnight experience on rails. The 16-coach train carries up to 823 passengers, with coach composition as 11 AC 3-tier, 4 AC 2-tier, and 1 First AC coach.
For the full route between Howrah and Guwahati, fares are approximately:
- AC 3-tier: ~₹2,300
- AC 2-tier: ~₹3,000
- First AC: ~₹3,600
Importantly, the service will offer only confirmed berths there will be no RAC or waiting list system, ensuring peace of mind for passengers planning their journey.

A Railway Board circular informed, “Minimum chargeable distance shall be 400 kilometres. Only confirmed tickets shall be issued for this train. Accordingly, there shall be no provision for RAC, waitlisted, or partially confirmed tickets. All available berths will be available from the day of the Advance Reservation Period (ARP).”

Interior
Passengers using the train will find that modern comforts accompany them inside their cabins. These include such things as the personal control of window shades, reading lights, deep wash basins, ergonomic beds, and so forth.
Besides, the automatic doors and improved suspension for quieter rides, CCTV monitoring, and a talk-back system for emergencies are all features that cater to both comfort and safety. There are also tactile markings on seats for the blind to find their places easily.
The maximum speed during the test runs was as high as 180 km/h, but the train during the regular service will have a speed of up to 130 km/h which is a good compromise between performance, safety, and the limitations imposed by the existing infrastructure.
Prices and Reservations
Vande Bharat Sleeper service ticket price has become one of the most discussed topics in the railway industry. The fare pattern for train tickets is made in such a way that it serves as a very attractive alternative to airline tickets, especially for those who belong to the middle-class families and frequent travellers.
Railway officials believe that the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will do more than just offer an improved travel option. By cutting journey times, enhancing overnight travel, and bringing modern rail technology to long distances, the service is expected to boost tourism, business travel and connectivity in eastern and northeastern India regions increasingly central to India’s growth story.
