Bihar: Village adopted by Nitish Kumar awaits development even after 5 years

The Dharmasati Gandaman village in Saran district was adopted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in 2013 after the mid-day meal tragedy of July 16, 2013, which claimed lives of 23 children.

5 years later the village is still waiting to see the development promised by the Chief Minister. Even the existing work projects are pending and need immediate government attention.

The ghosts of July 2013 still linger. Nitish Kumar has pledged to turn this village into a modal village. What infuriates the villagers the most that Kumar never visited the village ever since after the incident.

Villagers are waiting to see the developmental projects announced by the CM. Construction of 3 villages lanes and a Panchayat Bhawan never started. Residents are saying that the announcements were a pre-election gimmick and it was a face-saving grace for Nitish Kumar. Some say that it was a “price of 23 deaths.”

Villagers have tried multiple times to raise their concern with the local administration and recently a group of people also tried meeting with the district magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen and raised their concern. But the DM was busy in meetings and couldn’t meet them. These infuriating villagers allege, “Though all the Govt officials visit their village and they assure us of completing the work, but nothing is happening.”
