On finding extramarital affair of husband, wife threatened to make a police complaint against him. The husband challenged the woman that recent verdict by Supreme Court has scrapped adultery as crime following which, the depressed jilted wife committed suicide.

The incident took place at MGR Nagar in Chennai on Saturday where husband named John Franklin, working as watchman, married to Pushpalatha for two year, was caught having extramarital affair. The couple had a love marriage, and even had a child.

According to reports, the woman was undergoing treatment for tuberculosis. After since diagnosis of the disease, the husband started distancing himself from the wife. Franklin used to return home late and extent no financial support to the ailing wife.

When one of the relatives revealed about Franklin’s affair with another woman, Pushpalatha picked up the fight with her husband and asked him to part ways from the other woman.

Franklin refused to budge when she threatened to file a police complaint “He went to the extent of telling her that she cannot book a case against him as the Supreme Court had ruled that extramarital affair was no more a crime,” said an investigating officer.

Apparently, upset with husband’s behavior, Pushpalatha decided to hang herself when she was alone at home on Saturday night.

As per the Supreme Court order, if adultery leads to a person’s suicide, abetment of suicide charge can be slapped against the spouse responsible for it.
