In a major setback to the Congress, just a few days ahead of the Delhi civic polls to be held on Sunday, its leader and former Delhi minister Arvinder Singh Lovely along with Delhi youth Congress President Amit Malik have joined the BJP.
Lovely, a former minister in Sheila Dikshit government, is a three-time MLA and also headed the Delhi Congress unit during the crucial Delhi general elections of 2013.
“Unfortunate.When even leaders who got everything from the party leave then whom do you trust,” said former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit.
According to highly placed sources, many more Congress leaders are expected to join the BJP in the next few days. These leaders are supposedly unhappy with the ticket distribution for the MCD polls under the leadership of Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken.
As a boost to the BJP’s morale, recently, an AAP MLA from Bawana, Ved Prakash Satish, also joined the BJP on March 27.
The development comes just a day after Congress MLA from the Singngat Assembly seat in Churachandpur district of Manipur along with 14 members of the Congress Autonomous District Council from Chandel district joined the saffron party.
